Amla and Smith quick off the mark

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first.

Amla and Smith were quick off the mark

Amla and Smith opened up the batting for South Africa, and were quick off the mark punishing Taylor and Rampaul in the first 5 overs of the 3rd ODI. Both batsmen looked on form, picking boundaries and chasing singles. Amla had played his part and was dismissed for 34 in the 10th over when he chopped a deceiving delivery from Benn onto his stumps. Smith’s wicket followed in the 17th by LBW

AB the Anchor

The West Indies Bowlers were bowling well and were taking wickets consistently through out the mid and tail end batting line up, but AB de Villiers timed his shots well and made little mistakes under pressure of the falling wickets from Pollard (3-27) , Benn and Bravo, until he was finally run out in the 44th over for 70 runs. AB went on to be Man of the Match. His contribution led South Africa to a defendable score of 224 after not completing the 50 overs

The 2nd Innings

Having done well to stifle South Africa’s total by taking all the wickets before 50 overs, West Indies were in a good position to beat South Africa. This was not the case. The big wicket of Gayle (16) fell early on in the 2nd innings; this paved the way for the Aggressive South African bowlers to strike leaving the batting line up all out and in tatters in the 38th over. None of the West Indian batsmen could manage a competitive stint at the wicket. West Indies concede their 5th loss in a row only managing to score 157 all out.

South Africa’s Bowlers Morkel (4/21) and Langeveldt (3/30) coupled with Ab’s 70 at the crease secured the win and the Series!

South Africa won by 67 runs
