Thami Tsolekile blog: "Things just did not go our way"
Things just did not go our way in the final. We did not bowl well with the new ball and Jacques Kallis and Ashwell Prince played really well to take the game away from us.
I thought we could probably chase down anything between 150 to 160 and I thought we were in the game when we held the Warriors to only 58 off the first 10 overs.
But, we gave them 30 to 40 runs too many and it was always going to be difficult to chase down 186.
The Warriors showed how valuable experience is as they did not panic when their run-rate was not very good and they upped the tempo as the game wore on.
I must say that perhaps my team suffered a bit from stage fright. Seven of our guys had never played in a big final before and our bowling attack had less than 20 first class games between them.
But despite losing the final I think there are a lot of positives the Lions can take from this year’s Standard Bank Pro20.
The confidence and belief in the squad has grown tremendously and it can only bode well for the future.
Except for the final I thought our batting and bowling was superb through the tournament.
A lot of people have said to me that I must be pleased to have just reached the final of the Pro20 because the Lions were such big underdogs.
But I went to Port Elizabeth to win not to just take part. It is not th eend of the world though and, with what we have learnt this season, I am sure we will be up for the challenge next year.
