Pierre Joubert blog: "The guys did not play to their full potential"

It is not easy to be out of the Standard Bank Pro20 but the guys did not play to their full potential against the Lions and if you are slightly off your game in Pro20 the chances are you are going to get beaten.

I suppose some people will question if I made the right decision to leave myself out for the Lions match but we actually had four tough decisions to make.

Faf du Plessis, David Wiese, Roelof van der Merwe and myself were all left out but that is the nature of playing for the Titans.

We have so many internationals that, when they are available, we always have to come up with a balancing act.

There will be a debate as to whether we made the right decision in our selection but as I told the guys after the game, hindsight is a 20/20 vision.

The pitch, although a good one for batting, was a touch on the slow side and perhaps having a few medium-pace bowlers in the team could have helped us.

It certainly helped Richard Cameron who had one of those nights where everything just worked for him. You certainly can’t argue with four wickets.

We probably lost the match with our own bowling performance. We had four international in our bowling attack but we did not bowl well up front and we gave too many runs away at the death.

We probably gave them 20 runs too many and if we had to chase 160 or 170 we probably would have got the runs.

Despite being knocked out of the competition there are always positives to draw from our run. Blake Snijman batted superbly against the Lions and it is not the first time he has come up big for us this season.

He will take confidence from that going forward. Gulam Bodi and Ethy Mbhalati also enjoyed good campaigns but unfortunately is was not to be for us this year.
