Pierre Joubert Blog: "Rain Ruining our Standard Bank Pro20"
I’ll be honest; I am getting a bit sick and tired of rain ruining our Standard Bank Pro20 matches. Last year quite a few of our matches were washed out. I would honestly prefer to play a match and lose than not to play at all.
Even though we were only on the field for a short while against the Dolphins I thought we bowled pretty well.
To hold a side to just 28 runs off the first six overs is very good considering that teams normally score 40 or 50 runs during that period.
Ethy Mbhalati and Basheer Walters were good with the new ball and Albie Morkel did a superb job when he came on.
I was really impressed with the Dolphins’ David Miller. He struggled against the Titans the first few times he played us but I have a friend who spotted Miller playing for Maritzburg College and he told me that this bloke is someone to look out for.
There are a few very talented batsmen around the country at the moment. Guys like Stiaan van Zyl at the Cobras, Jonathan Vandiar at the Lions and, of course, Miller.
For an old guy like me it is pretty special to know that the future of South African cricket is in such good hands.
It was great to see a decent crowd in at Kingsmead. We have been pretty spoilt up at SuperSport Park because we usually get good crowds but there is a lot of hype around the Pro20 and it is good to see people coming out to support the competition.
We have to put the disappointment of the rained out match behind us because the games come around pretty quickly in the Pro20.
We play the Cobras on Sunday and they are a pretty good side. In fact, there are no bad teams in the Pro20 so don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!
The Cobras are defending champions so there is probably a little less pressure on us going into the match even if we are the home side.
