Morne van Wyk Blog: "My timing in the end was gratifying"
It was a very special win at Boland Park, and although the opening partners set up the victory, it was the bowlers who made the hard yards for the Chevrolet Diamond Eagles.
Our bowling attack, spearheaded by Dillon du Preez, captured wickets regularly in this vital Standard Bank Pro20 match against the Cape Cobras.
A key wicket was Justin Kemp. He was starting to blossom and when Dillon got him, it set them back.
Because of the wickets at key moments, the Cobras simply could not get momentum. They needed to re-establish a platform each time after another dismissal.
The variations and skills displayed by Dillon in his 3/17 was one of the highlights of the match.
Adrian McLaren and I added 80 runs in thirteen overs.
Bowlers do not like Adrian that much, simply because he is so unorthodox and he can be a match-winner.
His 33 off 46 balls and my 85 off 58 balls got us over the line.
My timing in the end was gratifying, especially smashing those two sixes in the last two overs.
If you ask me if there is a specific reason why I have done well in the one-day format this season, it’s partially because I am motivated to prove to the national selectors that I have not retired yet.
I still want to wear the green uniform of the national team.
Our game on Sunday against the Lions is an important one. We want to sustain the intensity that catapulted us to this special win.
