Morne van Wyk Blog: "To lose by two runs is never nice"

Our Standard Bank Pro20 campaign is at an end and what a way for it to finish.

To lose by two runs is never nice. You end up spending half the night lying awake in bed, going through the game in your head, wondering what you could have done differently.

We did some things very well during the game and some things not so well but it wasn’t to be and I guess Lady Luck was smiling on the Lions a bit more than us.

I thought we had a good chance of winning the match even though the Lions posted the highest total in this year’s Pro20 simply because it was such a good wicket to bat on.

At one stage, while Ryan Bailey and I were batting, it looked as if we might have the game won by the 19th over. But then Ryan and I were out in the space of three balls.

We also had three guys caught on the boundary and if the ball had been just a few inches higher on just one on those occasions we would have won the game.

It just shows how tight Pro20 cricket can be.

Even though we did not make the semi-finals I thought that there were some positives we can take from the competition.

Personally I am very happy with the form I am in at the moment; it is just a pity that I have to wait about a month before I get to have a knock in a match again.

Some of the young guys also put in some very good performances and that experience will stand us in good stead next season when I am sure we will have a much better campaign.
