Morne van Wyk Blog: "It is never nice to lose a game"
It is never nice to lose a game, especially one that you come so close to winning.
There is a movie about the NFL were they talk about a “game of inches” and cricket is very much like that, especially Pro20 cricket.
The game changes so quickly and three runs during the course of a match is not very much.
We played good cricket but we came away with no points but it is not all doom and gloom.
I think we have taken huge strides forward towards where we want to be.
After we went for about 50 runs off the first three overs I don’t think anyone would have given us a chance but a great team effort meant that we just about controlled the game from then on except in the final over.
It was good to see Ryan Bailey score some big runs. He has been with us for about seven years and it is great to that the faith that was shown in him is starting to play off.
On a personal level, being made captain for the Pro20 is a huge honour for me. I have played for the Eagles my entire career and I love the team and the players and have a passion for Free State cricket.
Luckily I have a bit of experience, not too much, but enough to come in handy to help me with my new responsibilities.
If I can see more of the players start to reach their potential I feel it will be a job well done.
The Pro20 doesn’t give you much chance to catch your breath and on Wednesday we will be playing the Dolphins in Durban.
I think the pitch down there will suit us but all the sides in the competition are so close to each other.
The Dolphins have got a good side with some experienced players and some guys that can move a match forward very quickly so no doubt Wednesday will see another humdinger.
