Justin Kemp Blog: "We let ourselves down"

We let ourselves down in the Standard Bank Pro 20 loss against the Eagles at Boland Park.

We did not start well, and then resurrected things to an extent.

But we did not capitalize well and did not finish strongly enough.

The regular loss of wickets was a factor. It was a stop-start affair that we need to improve on.

In fact, during the last two matches we made the same batting mistakes by losing regular wickets.

We should have added another twenty to thirty runs and we need to set the record straight with the bat in our final league match against the Warriors on Friday.

In the field we made fundamental mistakes that cost us dearly.

I thought Monde Zondeki bowled exceptional up front.

Robin Peterson and Justin Ontong did a lovely job as spinners.

But we had two slip-ups which went through the legs for boundaries, and we missed two or three clear run-out opportunities.

In a match of this nature in which we did not collect enough runs when we batted, such fundamental fielding errors are vital.

We want to secure the semi-final spot by setting the record straight against the Warriors and by playing proper cricket without sloppy mistakes.
