Justin Kemp Blog: "Not finishing things off"

What a disappointing end to a good game of cricket. I really thought we had done enough to win the game but at the moment we are struggling to get over the line.

We are putting ourselves in winning positions but not finishing things off.

All credit must go to the Warriors for winning the match but while Robin Peterson and myself were batting, although I did not think the game was in the bag, I did think we were in a very strong position.

Even when I got out, which did no help matters, I still though the other batters would get the job done.

We probably should have scored the eight runs we need to win off the last over.

Rusty Theron has bowled really well this season but I didn’t think he bowled a superb last over. It was not as if he sent down six unplayable yorkers, he just took the pace off the ball and we did not adjust.

There are positives that we can take from the game because I thought we bowled really well while Robbie’s fifty was an excellent knock.

We have not done ourselves any favours by losing the first match of a best of three series but we have no given up hope.

It is always darkest just before the dawn and we need to dust ourselves down and get ready for the next game.

We have been given an opportunity and there are two games of cricket that we need to win to make the final and we need to go out and do just that.

I don’t think we will make too many tactical changes before Wednesday’s match but we will have our international players back.

Herschelle Gibbs and Charl Langeveldt are two world-class players and they always give the rest of the guys a boost so hopefully they can do the same for our next match.
