Justin Kemp Blog: "It was a very rewarding victory"
It was a very rewarding victory after a disappointing batting display.
We got off to a slow start and found the going tough on a very slow wicket. The past few days it was extremely hot in the Mother City and we finished twenty to thirty runs short of a competitive total on a challenging deck.
I was happy with the way Justin Ontong and I resurrected the innings.
The bowling attack of the Dolphins did extremely well and it was only in the latter part of the innings that I managed to get lucky and deposit a few over the boundary ropes to push us to 116/7.
But thanks to magnificent bowling and fielding display we restricted the Dolphins to 102.
After an inept display in the field against the Titans, we worked extremely hard at our disciplines, and our catching was brilliant.
Rory Kleinveldt, with three wickets in one over, and Vernon Philander, with 5/17, excelled.
There was no special reverse swing or swing. We just hit our lengths and areas almost perfectly.
We did not allow the Dolphins any width, which is the key to boundary hitting on such a slow surface.
The Cobras kept it just back of a length, and our consistent pressure let to the demise of quite a few of their batsmen.
Hats off to Vernon and Rory, but the fieldsmen were our real heroes.
Now it’s off to Paarl for a match against the Chevrolet Eagles.
We have already sealed a spot for the play-offs.
We have managed some big scores at Paarl, but we also want to sustain our new-found confidence in the field.
