Johan Botha Blog: "We have no control over is the weather"
It was tough watching the boys losing against India from the sidelines because I was very keen to play, although so was every one else in the squad!
We lost that game in the last six overs of their innings, when they scored too many runs, and the first six overs of our innings, when we did not build up enough momentum.
But it is something we have talked about and we will be doing our best to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.
Before the start of the tournament much was made about the fact that a lot of the South African team were at the Indian Premier League but weren’t playing any matches.
However, I don’t think the lack of game time will prove to be too much of a disadvantage.
I didn’t play at the IPL but I spent a lot of time in the nets training against top-quality players. I also played in the warm-up games before the ICC World T20 so I am feeling pretty positive about my game and if I am selected I am confident I can make a decent contribution.
The nature of the tournament means that we have got ourselves into a must-win situation and we can’t take anything for granted against Afghanistan in our next match.
The good thing about this tournament is that you don’t take points or net run-rate through to the Super Eights so if we get through everyone will start form scratch again.
But losing to India means that we have placed ourselves under extra pressure and a win against Afghanistan is non-negotiable.
One thing we have no control over is the weather.
England were a touch unlucky to have lost to West Indies in a reduced match in Guyana but we have decided not to worrying about bad weather. It is something that is out of our hands and if it knocks us out then it will just be one of those things.
Luckily the weather in Barbados, since we arrived here, has been sunny with a bit of wind so hopefully it will stay that way until our match against Afghanistan.
There has been a great vibe around the World T20. The people here are very relaxed and chilled and they really love their cricket.
We even got decent crowds for our warm-up matches while the atmosphere for our match against India was something special.
With the tournament reaching a point where almost every game is a knock-out fixture I expect the excitement levels to go up a notch.
With all the travelling and practice over the last few days I haven’t had much a chance to see the other teams in action but Australia looked very impressive in their first match and you can never discount the sub-continent teams. From what I have seen I predict a South Africa versus Australia final!

Johan Botha
I was thrilled to see Johan Botha in the team and begged the authorities (two years ago) to select him as the captain of 20/20 cricket. I love watching his thoughful approach when he bowls and the commentators praise him in an on going commentary and even suggested again after the terrible loss against Pakistan and England that Botha should be captain and drastic steps taken to bring in new blood. Why did Parnell not play? They keep on using Morne Morkel in the power play when they should be using Botha and co. When in Australia they called him a real "Montgommery" with his eyes boring into you and his thought out moves.
I do not understand our cricket selectors, they keep on using the same players over and over and over. Over after over for Smith to ignore his spinners is to my mind insane when a wicket in 20/20 is nothing if you gave away nearly 50 runs?!!!!
Johan Botha you are simply the best.
