Johan Botha column

The loss in Port Elizabeth hurt the whole team and we need to get that game out of our systems by Friday. We have to turn things around as quickly as possible.

The amount of cricket we play these days you have to get over losses quickly and we have shown in the past that we can do that and I think we should be able to do it again this week.

We probably haven’t done as well as we wanted to on the previous weekends in the series. We have been good on the Fridays but not so good on the Sundays so hopefully this is another good Friday for us.

Last Sunday did not go as well as we would have liked but on a personal note I was reasonably happy with my performance.

I haven’t played in a while so it was nice to come back and get a few wickets and build a bit of confidence and hopefully I can build on that on Friday.

One thing I have missed this series is bowling in tandem with Roelof van der Merwe.

I enjoy playing with Roelof and it has worked for us in the past but it does not always work in South Africa.

South Africa is probably one of the most difficult places to bowl spin so it’s not always possible to fit spinners into a side.

Sri Lanka have left out Murali when they have toured South Africa and Harbhajan Singh has not always played for India when he has been over here.

It is especially difficult for us at the moment because of Jacques Kallis’ rib injury.

With Jacques not playing we have to find a batsman and a bowler to take his place which naturally cuts down the options on the spinning side of things.

I have been asked if constantly having my action called into question has changed how I play the game and I can honestly say it does not affect me when I am on the field.

In a game you can’t worry about your action, you have to worry about the batsmen and what they are trying to do and what you want to do.

If you worry too much about other things then your performance won’t be what you want it to be.

I think I have learnt the art of focusing on the game and I am happy where my game is at the moment.

At the moment I am working on a few things with Jeremy Snape and Vinnie Barnes, our bowling coach, because you have to keep looking to improve. Batsmen are always looking to get better and it is no different for bowlers.

Hopefully we can all show improvement on Friday to level the series against England.

Can`t wait to see Johan Botha play the Cobras in Cape Town on the 15 January 2010. The man is a cricket machine. Will be supporting him all the way.Show them what you made of.
