Easy Cricket at St Georges
Watching cricket at St Georges is so easy. Twenty minutes after leaving home, the kids had their hard hats and biltong and were waiting for the action to start.
The dancing girls had an even easier start, with the Warriors scoring just 3 runs off the 1st 2 overs. They got going eventually, with some big hitting from Justin Kreusch and brilliant fielding from Zimbabwe. The catch to dismiss Arno Jacobs was worth seeing more than once, with a leap almost as high as the Zim inflation rate, and taken one handed. There’s no big screen so I’ll have to watch the highlights later.
Cricket at this ground would not be the same without the band which definitely adds to the festive atmosphere. The dunking pond has also become a fixture at Pro20 games; one shivering child had to wait a very long time above the cold water as runs were coming slowly before Justin Kreusch was run out by a direct hit.
Zimbabwe look to have worked things out very carefully, with Price bowling to 4 fielders on the leg side boundary, until Johan Botha started to mess things up a bit.
The Warriors would have expected to win this game, but their total of 122, including a last ball 6, won’t be easy to defend. Let’s hope Robin Peterson’s bowling isn’t going to be too badly missed.
