Seriously Easy Goings for England

Seriously Easy Goings for England

England has been in top form throughout the tournament and today was no different. Sri Lanka had won the toss and elected to bat first, Pommie Offered his knowledge and stated that there was a bit of moisture on the wicket.I can only discern that Sri Lanka hoped for a dryer pitch in the 2nd innings offering more purchase for spinners...or so Pommie thought.

Jayawardene opened up the Batting well scoring 7 runs in the first over facing England's Bresnan, unfortunately for Jayasuriya; Sidebottom had none of it and dismissed the great batsman for a measly 1 run.

Collingwood felt like Tom Cruise from Cocktail

Collingwood felt like Tom Cruise from Cocktail and was mixing things up a bit with his bowlers, replacing Bresnan with Broad after dismissing Dilshan who mistimed a hook shot straight to Wright. The Bowling change paid off with marvellous splendour for England When Jayawardene nicked Broad’s first delivery to the capable hands of keeper Kieswetter. This was a key wicket in Sri Lanka’s undoing.

By the end of the power play ,Sri lanka were three big wickets down for just 38 runs and facing the England spinners , Swann and Yardy, from both sides. Sri Lanka’s Captain Sangakkara was foiled by a delivery from Swann at the end of the 9th over, as he flighted the ball to Pietersen.

Mathews played smart cricket for Sri Lanka

Mathews(58) decided to make a stand against the Spinners and played smart cricket, and with the assistance of Kapugedera, both started picking off Boundaries and working for the singles, upping Sri lanka's projected total to something more competitive on this slow wicket.

Broad and Sidebottom were reintroduced to the attack, and it was not long before wickets started falling again. The top bowling of Broad and Sidebottom made sure that Sri lanka did not build momentum.

At the end of the first innings Sri lanka managed a score of 128/6 , England made great use of their bowlers and looked alive out in the field.

The 2nd Innings

Michael Lumb and Kieswetter got off to a flier and managed 68 runs between them before Malinga finally managed to crack the wicket of the hard hitting Kieswetter(39) with the powerful in swinging Yorker.
Lumb got a second chance in that same over after being dropped by Kulasekara, but was short lived after hitting two fours, got too greedy and Perera took his wicket, unfortunately the damage had already been done.

Pietersen Sailed it home for England

Pietersen(42) managed quite easily to sail England to victory, with the help of the hard hitters Kieswetter(39) and Lumb(33). Who ever face England in the Final had better bring their 'A' game.
