Cricket continues despite morning showers in Bloemfontein
The Standard Bank Schools Pro20 match between Grey College and Northern Cape High School at the OUTsurance Oval in Bloemfontein became a rained out affair for what promised to be an exciting schools match.
This however did not deter cricket fanatics and school patriots alike, as people who lived as far as Welkom and Odendaalsrus (Odensia Primary School’s u/11 Cricket team) came despite the rain and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Families also ventured through, showing that not even a flood could stop a true fan from missing a cricket game. Even players from the Grey’s rugby team showed up to assist with psychological intimidation perhaps, more importantly to support their fellow schoolmates.
While entertainment was abundant and blissful enough to make one forget about the rain, the fans were treated to a Pro20 Series match between the Chevrolet Knights and the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras. The Cobras emerged victorious; winning the match by 13 runs after the Duckworth-Lewis’ method came into effect and the match was reduced to 10 overs per side.
Let’s hope the cricket battle on Friday at the Kimberley Oval will be one worth remembering, and may the best team win!
