Centurion Hoerskool - where girls bowl and your own bank account's cool
Centurion Hoerskool seems to have a remarkable sports ethic with enthusiastic and extremely polite, fresh-looking learners who turn out in impressive sports kit after school to play cricket, run, throw javelin and basically just have some good clean fun. - The Standard Bank Schools Pro20 activation team joined them on the field today, for some cool cricket activities and to chat about why having your own bank account at a young age is a great way to focus on building your plans and achievements in the future.
Shy at first, out of respect, the learners approached us quietly but soon joined in a birthday song for a friend. After only a few minutes the girls stepped up to bowl showing off their co-ordination and the benefits of living only a few kms from Supersport Park where they watch cricket often.
The cricket culture is strong here, says the school's Director of Sport and Chairman of Schools Cricket, Johan Cloete who's enjoyed this years School's Pro20 tremendously - despite his school losing dramatically by only four runs to Menlo Park in the quarter finals. Compared to all the other provinces we have really tough league structures here which make Pretoria boys' school cricket the strongest in the country, he says.
Overall, these learners seem impressively active and even more importantly respectful of each other and our team. They participated in games and the danceoff in an orderly and fun fashion - with one guy so impressive in his HOWZAT dip, dive 'n yell that the front seam of his pants split, much to his delight!
When it comes to opening their own bank accounts these learners are super keen, They believe in hard work and realising your achievements, one step at a time. Shane Albertyn, Grade 9 tells me he likes cricket and has a bank account because he worked for Homemark last year and learnt to save. Others are now keen to open a Standard Bank Student Achiever account and stand in line to win thousands for themselves and their school.
