Davy Jacobs Blog: "What a finish - Defending nine runs."

What a finish to our first Standard Bank Pro20 match of the season! Defending nine runs during the last over is never easy but credit must go to Rusty Theron.

Rusty has been bowling superbly for the last two or three seasons and he has become the got-to guy in tight situations. He can bowl it in the block hole almost at will.

But him doing so well is a good thing and a bad thing, for us that is, because it is only a matter of time before he achieves higher honours.

We probably made life a bit more difficult for ourselves by not scoring as many runs as we could have.

We wanted 150 at the start of the match and we ended up with 149 but we could probably have got 170.

We never really got going because we kept losing wickets. Colin Ingram’s 61 and Nicky Boje’s 32 were very important but if we could have put a couple of big partnerships together we could have scored a few more runs.

It was great to see Colin continue his good form.

Colin has become very consistent with the bat. He has been around for a while, he is 24 now, but he has figured out his game and it is starting to show with the amount of runs he is scoring.

He was in good form during the MTN40 and he has just carried that through to the Pro20.

It was vital we picked up a win in our first match because you want to start well in a competition like the Pro20.

It is only a single round so to have got a win first up was important for us.
The games come so thick and fast during the Pro20 which helps to makes the whole tournament so exciting.

It makes my job as captain a little bit easier because motivating the players is not difficult at all. The competition has really taken off and is one of the highlights of our season. The fans seem to enjoy it as well!

The Dolphins are our next opponents and they will be tough to beat in Durban.

They have quality players and are a well-balanced outfit. Loots Bosman is almost a specialist twenty20 player and David Miller is showing that he has real talent.

We will have to be at the top of our game if we want to make it two wins from two matches.
