Davy Jacobs Blog: "Colin is in the form of his life"
What an innings from Colin Ingram to help us to three wins from three in this year’s Standard Bank Pro20.
Colin is in the form of his life and the great thing is that he is not changing anything or getting ahead of himself. He starts every game afresh and is not thinking too far ahead.
He won us the game against the Lions with his 82 although I thought our bowlers did well to restrict the Lions to 155.
It was a score we would have taken before the start of play.
I always felt that we were in control during our run chase. Luckily Colin and I managed to build a decent partnership and we thought we could handle 10 to 11 runs to the over to get us home.
I said to Colin that we should take some time to get in and only look to go big from the 12th or 13th over which is exactly what he did when he hit three sixes in the 16th over!
Credit must also go to Craig Thyssen for coming in and hitting a six early in his innings. I don’t think people realise just how hard it is for a batsman to come to the crease and just start hitting sixes.
Speaking of hitting sixes I thought Vaughn van Jaarsveld played one of the best knocks that I have seen from him.
He single-handedly got the Lions to their score and he hits the ball as hard as anyone I know.
Luckily we managed to get him out for “only” 72 otherwise we could have been chasing a far bigger total.
It’s been a great start to the competition, winning the three games in a row and qualifying for the semis, but in the bigger scheme of things it does not mean too much and the hard work starts now.
Our next match is at home against the Cobras who are a very good Pro20 side. They have quality bowlers and batsmen who know what they are doing. We will have a few days off now before getting together to prepare for what is a very big game for us.
I may have a few days off from cricket but that doesn’t mean I won’t be watching cricket.
I will be tuning in to watch the Proteas hopefully pull off a series victory in India.
It won’t be easy as I am sure the pitch will be prepared to suit the home side but it would be great if South Africa could get a result after the fantastic victory in the first test.
