The Proteas treated their supporters to yet another clinical performance as they crushed Bangladesh by 206 runs to send the co-hosts crashing out of the World Cup while South Africa rocketed to the top of Group B.

South Africa decided to rest Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and AB de Villiers, which might have given Bangladesh some hope.

We have enjoyed a fruitful and professional relationship with Graeme, not least in his capacity as captain in the many international twenty-over events held in South Africa: the launch of International Pro20s in October 2005, as well as the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 event in 2007.

GRAEME SMITH announced on Wednesday his intention to stand down as national captain of the Standard Bank Pro20 International squad with immediate effect and as captain of the Standard Bank ODI squad at the conclusion of the 2011 ICC World Cup next year.

He will remain captain of the Castle Test squad and will be available for selection for the Proteas in all three formats of the game.

Does SA's victory in the West Indies tell us much?

As expected, South Africa thrashed the West Indies.

I don’t know why this would arouse much interest at all. This once great bastion of cricket has become the perennial whipping boys of world cricket. While most teams still hold some ability to play well at home, West Indies, where any team would normally shudder at touring there before, is now considered almost a guaranteed win for most team.

Today was a travel day and so I should have begun with the fear of oversleeping and missing the transport to the airport. Obviously there was no chance of that happening because I could absolutely rely on Ronnie the rooster unless he had been devoured by some nocturnal killer during the night.

PRESS RELEASE: Corrie van Zyl to remain interim Proteas coach until 2011 World Cup

Corrie van Zyl will continue as interim coach of the Proteas until April 2011, while veteran all-rounder Jacques Kallis has been appointed Proteas vice captain with Graeme Smith as captain, until the end of the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. This was announced on Friday afternoon, following a Cricket South Africa (CSA) Board meeting in Johannesburg. The Board endorsed a new structure to provide the Proteas with a strong management team that supports excellence,  innovation and international best practice, as proposed by CSA CEO Gerald Majola.
