The competitive instinct kicks

It is a very long time since I competed at international level -- at
least it feels like a very long time -- but one thing I clearly remember
from the many one-day series in which I was involved was the thrill of a
possible clean sweep.

There is only one thing harder than winning a series, and that is to win
every single game.  It rarely happens, even between undoubted favourites and
significant underdogs, so when you get the chance to do it, especially in a
five match series, the competitive instinct kicks in as hard as ever.

Amla brings to the crease a sense of certainty and reliability

Long gone are the days when South African fans were satisfied with victory. As I said a couple of days ago, it is impossible to please everybody all of the time. The Proteas two nil up in the five match ODI series and there are as many questions being asked as congratulations being offered.

A break from commentary

I'm just taking a quick break from commentating to write this.

Titans got off to a blinding start but lost their way in the mid-section of the innings. But ended up with a good total of 159 to defend.

It was a wild ball and a wild shot that broke the stranglehold that the Cobras openers had on the run chase, with Morne Morkel getting Puttick caught behind.

With Smith and Gibbs at the crease, and with Duminy, Davids and Co still to come, its going to be good! Smith is showing some great form with his controlled aggression.

Jonty from the Dugout

Hey, it's Jonty Rhodes here, blogging live from the Cobras vs Titans game at Supersport Park.

In the first few games we've seen a most of the sides make a few basic mistakes. Now that we're a couple of games in, teams are getting into the swing of things. Scores are looking a lot higher, the ball flies up here on the Highveld, and sixes are easy to come by. So 165 can be chased down by the Titans.

Great crowd here tonight. People are realising that the Pro20 is on. It's the first game at Supersport park, and after all the build up, the turn out is amazing!
