South Africa finally got their first win of the tournament with a brutal 59 run victory over Afghanistan, and with it, secured their place in the Super 8 stage. I don't really want to say that they were ever in doubt, but their batting may have left a few people with a few jitters.

The Cobras got their title-retaining season off to a bang with a solid 42 run win this evening against The Lions at Newlands, Cape Town. The crowd was brought to their feet numerous times as the Cobras ended their innings on a high with big "Rockstar Master Blaster" Richard Levi hitting 43 runs off just 20 balls in an unended innings that included three 4s and three 6s. Robert Flylinck was the pick of the Lions bowlers with figures of 4 for 31after his allotted overs, which included the big wicket of Gibbs who hit a star-studded 53 from 32 balls.
Tonight was the opening of the Pro20 Rock Star Cricket series, and what a cracker it was going to be. Unfortunately, a power failure caused a 10 minute delay and rain caused play to be abandoned far too early in the game, around the 13th over of the first innings.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced that Proteas coach Mickey Arthur has resigned with immediate effect and has confirmed CSA High Performance Manager, Corrie van Zyl, as the interim coach. The announcement was made at a media conference in East London on Wednesday, attended by Arthur, CSA CEO Gerald Majola, Proteas captain Graeme Smith, Van Zyl, and Proteas team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee.
The past 12 months have been a bumper year for South African cricket in many respects, not least of all for the contribution that the Standard Bank under-13 week has made and will continue to make.
