CWC - 7th match group - South Africa v West Indies – Delhi

The 7th match of group B saw South Africa face the West Indies in Delhi. South Africa won the toss and elected to field first, deciding that dew might play hindrance to the fielding side in the 2nd innings.

With the National Anthems sung and done the 1st innings was under way. West Indies opener CH Gayle faced some opening spin from Botha, a strategy employed by the SA captain to have a spin heavy bowler side, with the exception of Steyn, Kallis and Morkel. This tactic bore fruit early on for SA, seeing Gayle depart for just 2 runs after edging the ball to Kallis at first slip.

Waterlogged Wickets

Sold out on the round about

Driving around Ring Street for the 3rd time I eventually found parking, this is the normal procedure when visiting St Georges Park with sold out seating. The weather was awesome aside from a moderate breeze and the line by the entrance was already extending out onto the street...this match was going to be a cracker!

Power Play!?

Amla and Smith quick off the mark

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first.

Amla and Smith were quick off the mark

Amla and Smith opened up the batting for South Africa, and were quick off the mark punishing Taylor and Rampaul in the first 5 overs of the 3rd ODI. Both batsmen looked on form, picking boundaries and chasing singles. Amla had played his part and was dismissed for 34 in the 10th over when he chopped a deceiving delivery from Benn onto his stumps. Smith’s wicket followed in the 17th by LBW

Smith pulls a Homer Simpson

West Indies had won the toss and elected to field first, with the wicket just been re-laid; it probably was the better decision.

Bosman walks himself out on a wide call

Bosman and Smith opened up the batting for South Africa, and Roach was first man in the West Indies bowling attack. Bosman and Smith were off to a steady start, until Bosman (7) mistook an umpire’s decision of wide for OUT in the 3rd over and walked off, or gloved it and decided to be the better man.

Smith pulls a Homer Simpson… Doh!

SA vs AUS 4th ODI : 2nd Innings

South Africa Wins The Series!!

The Aussies looked in form at the start of the 2nd innings with Clarke and Haddin keeping up with the formidable score posted by South Africa, ultimately scoring 129 before succumbing to the spin of South Africa's vd Merve and Botha. Together they claimed three wickets in quick succession, jolting the Aussie line up.

Ponting came in a bit slow off the go but seemed to come to life a bit scoring four 4s until he tried to pull a ball over mid wicket and found Morkel's hands instead. A decisive blow for the Aussies which led to a crumbling tail end and in a matter of 4 overs it was over.
