Riaz's view of Pro20 2008

The Dolphins began this season’s Standard Bank Pro20 Series campaign with desire and hope rather than expectations of a semi final place. The Durban-based franchise have struggled in limited over cricket over the last few years and few could have foreseen them progressing past the round robin stage.

After the opening two games, and two losses, including a resounding ten-wicket thumping, at home, to the Eagles, the Dolphins found themselves propping up the table.

Titans are Pro20 Champions!

The Titans have won the Standard Bank Pro 20 Series with a 18 run victory over the Dolphins.

When Smit and de Bruyn went it was only a matter of time before the Dolphins tail were sent packing.

In the end it was the class of de Villiers in the Titans innings and the bowling attack, led by Steyn and Mbhalati, that got the Titans the title, to go with the 45 over championship they won at the start of the season.

Smit Out

Smit is out to a brilliant diving catch on the boundary by Bodi.

There was some confusion as Smit hung around and the umpires eventually asked the third umpire to have a look, with us in the crowd debating if he should be checking whether or not Bodi touched the rope or if it was an over, the waist full toss.

Eventually Smit had to go, out for 36 from 24 balls, a great little knock to get the Dolphins back into it.

Pierre de Bryun is 25 not out and it has to be up to him to get the Dolphins home.

120/6 the Dolphins need 34 from 20 balls.

Titans on Top

As the Mexican wave does its bit around the stadium, it's the Titans on top and the Dolphins trying to fight back.

The Dolphins were in big trouble at 49/5 but Darren Smit and Pirre de Bruyn are staging a fight back, but the Dolphins need them to carry them on a few overs more if they are to have a chance of rescuing this match.

The Dolphins at 84/5 need 70 from the next 48 balls.

Dolphins In Early Trouble

A double strike in his first over by Mbhalati has the Dolphins in deep trouble.

Imraan Khan was the first to go for just 3 and was soon followed by the key man for the Dolphins Hashim Amla, out for 4 to a terrific catch by AB de Villiers, keeping wicket for the Titans.

The Dolphins are 13/2 after 2 overs with captain Ahmed Amla needing to play a real captains knock this evening.

Titans Post 153/6

The Titans survived a Dolphins fightback, when wickets began to tumble in the last 5 overs, to post a commanding total of 153/6.

The highest score this season at Kingsmead has been 135 so the Dolphins have it all to do if they are going to end the season as Pro 20 champions.

For the Titans AB de Villiers scored 46 from 24 balls, Bodi 45 from 54, and a brilliant 33 not out from 17 balls at the death.
