A game in the life of a Pro20 blogger

Fifteen minutes remain before the first ball is due to be bowled. I’m sitting at Rondebosch station, waiting for a train to Newlands, where the Cobras are all set to take on the Eagles. A voice on the platform loudspeaker crackles something about the train being delayed – great. I pull out my phone, fire up Opera Mini and log in to my Pro20 live blogging account, just to make sure it’s working. It is – ready and waiting for my deluge of live updates from the game. The train eventually squeals in and I make it to the ground with three minutes to spare…

End of a dream for the Cobras

The Cobras have disappointed themselves and their home crowd by losing their semi-final against the Titans.

The game went down to the wire with just 7 needed off the last 2 balls, but it was not to be and in the end the home side had to accept defeat. It was a cracker of a game, with thrills aplenty to keep everyone entertained.

This result means that the Titans take on the Dolphins in the final next week in Durban in what should be a mammoth encounter.

Massive last over needed

The Cobras are desperately holding on to this game and now need 16 runs off the last over! The crowd are on their feet and nails are being bitten all round!

Cobras battling to maintain momentum

The 2nd semi-final of the Standard Bank Pro20 competition, between the Cobras and the Titans at Newlands, is turning into a tense affair.

The Cobras have lost some of the momentum they had been enjoying earlier in the innings and now need 72 off 42 balls to book a place in the final.

Smith went for 34 and Gibbs managed just 6. Duminy and Henderson are now at the crease.

Cobras pulling ahead

The Cobras, ably represented at present by Graeme Smith (26) and Andy Puttick (25), are faring excellently in their pursuit of a game-winning total of 159.

They've notched up 54 runs at a rate of 8.1 an over, which is just ahead of the required rate. Puttick has just been dismissed though, and in now is Gibbs.

Him and Smith are certainly an experienced and capable pair, so lets see if they can keep that run rate ticking! I can't think of anything better to do on this sunny Sunday afternoon in Cape Town than watch this Pro20 battle unfold!

159 is the magic number today

The Cobras will need to post a score of 159 if they want to beat the titans and claim a spot in the final against the Dolphins next weekend.

The Titans amassed 158 in their 20 overs, for the loss of 7 wickets, 5 of which were bagged by JP Duminy.

The weather is perfect, and the vibe is as cheerful as ever. This crowd has full faith in the Cobras, who now have a very real - but not easy - chance of making it to the final.

Graeme Smith and Andy Puttick have just walked onto the field and are about to begin their run chase. Opening the bowling for the Titans is speedster Dale Steyn.
