Newlands crowd earns yet another well-deserved win

The Cobras have a lot to be grateful for. In Justin Kemp they have a flamboyant frontman who leads with both bat and ball; they have wicked bowling skills in players like Rory Kleinveldt and Vernon Philander; and they have the potential for huge scores, thanks to gutsy batsmen like Henry Davids and Andrew Puttick.

But more than anything, they have a loyal and unwavering home crowd, who seem determined to see their team win, no matter what.

Kallis and De Villiers are having a good day

It's another perfect day for cricket here at Sahara Park Newlands. After a bit of a wobble upfront, with both Smith and Gibbs going out for relatively low scores (Smith for 8 and Gibbs for a slightly more respectable 26), South Africa has picked up the pace somewhat, thanks to the efforts of De Villiers and Kallis.

They've been showing a bit of intent with the bat, with a number of balls racing away towards the boundary, to be stopped just short of it by an alert fielder. Both have now reached their half-century - and that's always a good sign for a top-order batsman.

So, about those rabbits at Newlands...

Some people like to wear their team's shirt to games; others wear matching overalls with slogans painted all over them; some put on hard-hats and paint their faces in team colours. And then there are these guys.

I first spotted these bunnies during the dinner break, leaning against a tree near the food kiosks, drinking Coke and eating hotdogs. I rather like bunny-rabbits, so I snapped a quick shot before hurrying off to find somewhere to sit.

Warriors vs Cobras: everything Pro20 should be

This is Dools. Although Dools has lived in Cape Town for about a year now, he told me that last night was his very first time at Sahara Park Newlands. Dools, I'm so glad you picked THIS game of all games to be your first, because now I can be absolutely sure that it won't be your last.

Where shall I start? Well, like any good Capetonian, I think I'll start with the weather.

This is what the crowd came to see!

Sixes and fours - that's what Pro20 is all about, and that's what the Cobras have delivered in the last few overs of this game, much to the absolute delight of the crowd.

Duminy managed a thrilling half-century off 42 balls (including 2 fours and 2 sixes), while Davids added his touch with a six of his own.

With the Cobras needing 8 off just 3 balls, it was really anybody's game, until Duminy was caught off a huge attempt at a six.

Can the Cobras save this one?

With 3 overs to go, the Cobras need another 57 runs to win. JP Duminy is on 30 and his batting partner Henry Davids has 9 run to his name.

The sun has just dipped below the mountains, and the floodlights have come on at Newlands.

The Cobras need to score at around 2 runs a ball if they want to pull this off and make it through to the final. Round about now they need to pull out those big sixes and fours and get the ball moving around the ground; let's see what they can do in these last few overs. It's going to be close, either way, which always makes for good cricket and a happy crowd.
