Warriors get a second chance

The Warriors were granted a second chance to stay in the running for the Standard Bank Pro20 final and a spot in the Champions League when their Semi-final against the Eagles in PE was rained out in the second innings.

Just eight balls were possible before the umpires stopped play, Boeta Dippenaar scoring two runs.

The two teams will replay the match tomorrow night.

Warriors wilting in PE

The 2nd round of Semi-finals between the Chevrolet Warriors and the Gestetner Diamond Eagles is taking place today at Sahara Oval St. Georges in Port Elizabeth.

The Warriors batted first but an ominous sign of things to come presented itself in the second over when the Eagles' CJ de Villiers bowled a maiden over; rare in this format of the game.

The Eagles continued to bowl economically and the Warriors were only 20/1 (Kreusch bowled in 3rd over) at the end of the 5th over, with a measly 4.24 run rate.

Close, but no cigar.

The Lions had a score of 155 to chase on what was generally considered a batting wicket, they came close but they just couldn't do it, thanks to Charl Langeveldt, The 2 sides drew.

After they demolished the Nashua Titans on Sunday in Cape Town, the Cape Cobras almost ended both Highveld sides' Pro20 championship in one week. The Lions do have a game in hand though, which is a must win.

The Lions started off well but the game stagnated after Bula was bowled out for 19.

Lions last chance?

Even the relentless rain this week has not dampened the spirits of the students in Potchefstroom, as the Highveld Lions try to salvage their series against the Cape Cobras.

Andrew Puttick got the game off to classic Standard Bank Pro20 style with a four off the first ball, but was sent home on the next ball he faced when Craig Alexander impressed on debut by bowling him out.

Herschelle Gibbs & JP Duminy looked like they were going to make an imposing batting pair but the Lions countered with the even more imposing Andre Nel.

Titans succumb to Cobras at Newlands

In what was effectively a quarter-final the Titans met the Cape Cobras at Sahara Park, Newlands this afternoon. The Cobras won the toss and elected to bat.
