AB de Villiers Blog: "The loss against India was tough"
The loss against India was tough to take because it is a sin to lose by 14 runs with wickets in hand. It means that we did not pace our innings very well and that is something that we will be working very hard on to correct.
We started well with the ball but we didn’t capitalise on our start and that was our first mistake.
We weren’t at our best in the field either and that is something we have worked hard on in training and I am sure we will see an improvement there.
If there is one positive we can take out of the defeat is that we now know what we need to do to improve and we can look to take everything on an upward curve.
Although there were a lot of things we did not do well in the match against India it is important that nothing is taken away from Suresh Raina’s century.
It was a truly classy innings that showed just what a fine player Raina is. I am sure we will have many more battles with him in the next few years.
But, as a team, we have put that game out of our minds, it is long gone and it is time for us to look forward.
As for my own performance against India I was pleased to get a few runs especially with a lot of people saying I was out of form after the Indian Premier League.
But I can honestly say that I have never been out of form. The nature of twenty20 cricket means that you are occasionally going to make mistakes while batting.
During the IPL I was run out a few times and I got out to one or two bad shots but I was hitting the ball well in the nets and I felt that a decent score was just around the corner.
During the IPL I only played six matches because of the limit on foreign players but I thought I batted okay.
In twenty20 cricket, unless you open the batting, you don’t often have the chance to get used to the pace of the wicket before playing your shots.
Luckily for me the things I tried against India seemed to come off although it was disappointing that I wasn’t able to see the team home.
It is Afghanistan in Barbados next and we won’t be taking anything for granted.
We don’t know too much about them but we will have a video session before the game to see if we can spot any weaknesses.
It is a must win match for us and the batters, myself included, will need to make sure that we lay a good platform to allow our hitters to cut loose later in the innings while the bowlers will have to go hard at the opposition batsmen.
There is no room for mistakes.

Sorry for you
